#LogNation,

Welcome to the Summer 2025 edition of The Exceptional Release. As we continue to navigate a rapidly evolving global environment, this issue brings together stories and insights that reflect the innovation, leadership, and strategic thinking defining today’s Joint Logistics Enterprise.

We begin with a highlight from the members of the Sir Winston Churchill Chapter, representing RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell. In March, chapter members visited the RML Group in the UK, where they witnessed firsthand the cutting edge of automotive R&D. This engagement underscored the power of international collaboration and highlighted how partnerships between the military and civilian sectors can spark innovation.

While we couldn’t meet in person for the LOA Symposium 2025, the momentum of innovation and research that was planned for our signature event didn’t slow. This edition features the Aether Spring 2025 finalists, a testament to the inventive spirit of Airmen across the force.

This year’s finalists present groundbreaking solutions—from 3D-printed aircraft seals to portable diagnostics and F-35 training aids—that promise to transform maintenance and logistics. Supported by Tesseract and the Air Force Logistics Directorate, these innovations highlight how readiness and efficiency go hand-in-hand with grassroots ingenuity. Continuing in that spirit, we turn to the Indo-Pacific with a historical lens. Maj Kalyn Howard and 2Lt Ethan Andrews offer an executive summary of their symposium presentation on Wake Island’s enduring strategic relevance. Bridging World War II lessons with today’s contested environments, they remind us how historical logistics challenges can shape tomorrow’s operational success.

Expanding our focus beyond Earth’s atmosphere, Jondavid DuVall’s “Powering the Space Fight” tackles the critical need for energy resilience and logistics infrastructure in space. With global powers contesting the domain, the US must invest in technologies like on-orbit servicing and modular satellites to maintain a strategic advantage.

Back on the ground, transparency and collaboration take center stage in “Supplying Visibility – EWI Perspective.” Our EWI fellows make the case for real-time data sharing and standardized communication throughout the supply chain—an essential foundation for a more agile, resilient network.

Meanwhile, as warfare grows more integrated, “Survival of the Fittest: CJADC2+ on Mobility Aircraft” explores how AMC must evolve from a support function to a strategic enabler. By embedding AMC assets into the Joint All-Domain Command and Control framework, our aircraft become crucial nodes in the fight.

In “Think Fast or Die,” Lt Col Philip Lere offers his analysis on decision-making in complex environments. He challenges us to move beyond linear problem-solving and embrace adaptive decision-making to stay effective in dynamic operational environments.

Turning to leadership, Lt Col Michael A. Bradford continues his five-part series with a compelling examination of Colin Powell’s evolution as a leader. “Competence and Character in Action” argues that both traits are essential—and that our promotion systems should evolve to assess both, cultivating leaders who are not only skilled but deeply principled.

Complementing this, Maj Rivera calls for a new approach to growing leaders in his proposal for a practical, commander-focused guide to help prepare tomorrow’s leaders today.

Together, these articles showcase the extraordinary breadth and depth of thought from across #LogNation. Whether in the air, on the ground, or in space, logistics remains central to the success of the lethality of the Air Force—and The Exceptional Release remains committed to highlighting the people, ideas, and innovations moving us forward. If you want to be part of the conversation, please feel free to reach out to me directly at editor@loanational.org and consider submitting an article for publication.
