Logistics Officer Association
Approved for Public Release – Evan Hanson, Chief Information Officer
The Logistics Officer Association Lyon Chapter will be hosting the Capt David I. Lyon Memorial 5K on December 27, 2023, marking the 10-year anniversary of Capt Lyon’s passing near Kabul Air Base, Afghanistan. We invite all Logistics Officer Association Chapters to participate in a Lyon LOA Memorial 5K in his memory. Each chapter now has an opportunity to create an intentional annual event honoring his sacrifice. The flagship 5K will be held at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 9 a.m. at the Capt David I. Lyon Memorial Park.
Capt David I. Lyon was deployed as a Logistics Readiness Officer from the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. He was killed in action (KIA) when a vehicle-born improvised explosive device targeted and attacked his convoy. Serving on a year-long deployment in Afghanistan, he was performing a combat advisory mission with Afghan National Army Commandos and working with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan and was the first Air Force Logistics Readiness Officer KIA. Originally from Sandpoint, Idaho, Capt Lyon was a 2008 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where he was a record breaking shot putter. He is survived by his wife, Dana Pounds-Lyon who was simultaneously deployed.
